Martinsburg woman strangled and smothered

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Martinsburg woman found dead in her home back on Saturday was strangled and smothered to death according to a report from the state Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department said Martha Tyler, 72, had a bag over her head and hands tied behind her back when she was found in her Picture Mountain Drive home Saturday afternoon. No arrests have been made.

Deputies said Tyler’s front door was kicked in by an intruder two weeks ago but there was no sign of forced entry in the latest incident.
