HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—Conference USA has named Matt Margaritonda the leagues Pitcher of the Week.
Margaritonda is emerging as a solid Sunday starter in Marshall’s rotation in the early portion of the season. He fanned a career-high 11 batters and was just two batters over the minimum in a complete game victory over East Carolina on Sunday.
“I am very humbled and proud,” Margaritonda said. “It was one of my individual goals coming into this season, but I have to give credit to my teammates and coaches for pushing me through the process.”
Margaritonda’s selection marks the fourth time in school history a Marshall hurler has earned C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors. The previous selections were Aaron Blair (twice in 2013) and Arik Sikula (in 2011).
