WILLIAMSPORT, Md., — A Berkeley County couple was killed Tuesday in a crash on Interstate 81 in Maryland.

Police identified the victims as Joseph Digiovanni, 69, and his wife, 68-year-old Esther Digiovanni, of Falling Waters.

The couple was traveling north near Williamsport, Md., when Joseph Digiovanni slowed down because of road construction. Police said another vehicle rear-ended him. The Digiovanni’s vehicle burst into flames. Police believe they died on impact.

Interstate 81 was closed for several hours.

What happened to the state police running radar? Oh, how silly of me, that's something that caused drivers to slow down if only for a few minutes. My sympathy to the family of more innocent victims.

This is extremely sad, they were my friends and had just moved from being neighbors of my parents in MD to WV. My prayers are for their families, they had 3 wonderful sons and 2 grandkids. Still so very hard to believe they are gone.

It's pretty clear the speed limit on I-81 is simply a suggestion. So sad. My condolences to their family & friends.

Sad, so sad. It appears as a case of the other driver failing to mainatin control of his/her vehicle.
As someone that frequently travels I-81 North, it is typically bumper to bumper traffic at 70mph.
Extreme caution is the watchword on I-81 North!

I was just on that stretch Sunday afternoon. A beautiful driving day from St.Albans WV until I hit I-81. IV is right, you better speed up and keep up real quick. Prayers to family of both. Very sad.

Too many trucks and distracted drivers on I-81.
