Former McDowell prosecutor appointed in Kanawha County case

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Former McDowell County Prosecutor Sid Bell was appointed Friday by a special judge overseeing the case involving Kanawha County Prosecutor Mark Plants.

Special Derek Swope made the appointment after the West Virginia Prosecuting Attorneys Institute declined to make an appointment citing state code.

Plants’ ex wife, Allison Plants, filed a complaint with State Police last month claiming he was excessive in disciplining one of their children. No charges have been filed.
