Man in custody following Huntington bank robbery

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Huntington man was arrested Friday night and charged with bank robbery.

Police took Charles Henderson, 58, into custody at about 9:40 p.m. on 6th Avenue not far from where they believe Henderson robbed Chase Bank on 5th Avenue at about 3:30 p.m.

Investigators on the scene originally didn’t know if Henderson had remained in the building so they searched it room by room and employees there were told to shelter-in-place. One of those workers, Darren Burton, told WSAZ-TV workers had recently participated in a fire drill, but “I don’t know if we’ve practiced anything like this.”

There were approximately 20 workers in the building. The scene was cleared by 8 p.m.

It is alleged Henderson gave the teller a note, was given some money and took off. Police did have surveillance video. He’s lodged in the Western Regional Jail on $25,000 bail.
