Fairmont woman hospitalized following water rescue

CUMBERLAND, Md., — A Fairmont woman is recovering after falling into a creek in Cumberland, Maryland.

Cumberland Police were dispatched to Mechanic Street at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday after a woman fell from the deck of a business into the waters of Wills Creek near the flood control area. A search began immediately and Tonyia Kegarise, 29, was located several hundred yards away from where she fell into the water.

Cumberland Fire Department activated a swift water rescue team and pulled Kegarise from the water without incident. She was in Wills Creek for about 30 minutes and was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of non life threatening injuries.

The annual Hooley Pub Crawl was held in Cumberland on Saturday to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
