FestivALL turns 10

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – An annual Charleston event turns 10 this year. FestivALL, which runs from June 20-29, will offer up some new entertainment this year to celebrate the milestone.

Organizers announced the schedule of events on Monday at Appalachian Power Park where a new concert will take place.

FestivALL Director Larry Groce announces this year’s lineup at Monday news conference.

“We’re calling it FestivALT and it features music that’s aimed at a little bit younger audience. The headliners are going to be the Drive By Truckers,” said FestivALL Executive Director Larry Groce.

That’s not the only new event for this year’s celebration. The organizers have also added a West Virginia Writer’s Roundtable featuring state-themed literature, Art-for-All, a juried art show for children and the Appalachian Festival of Young Voices.

However, the one new event Groce is really excited about is ‘West Virginia Squares,’ a game show featuring one very famous Huntington native.

“Peter Marshall said he’s willing to come out here and host it. Here’s a guy in his mid-80s who is absolutely alive and bright and talented as ever,” said Groce. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The Mayor’s Concert will feature Aaron Neville. Headlining Blues, Brews and BBQ are Rick Estrin and the Nightcats, the Nighthawks and Samantha Fish. Red Baraat and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band will play Wine and All That Jazz.

As usual, Groce says FestivALL will feature fun for all ages.
