GREENVILLE, N.C.— Shaelynn Braxton homered twice and drove in seven runs Friday as Marshall swept a doubleheader with East Carolina 9-1 and 7-1.
Shaelynn Braxton and Raquel Escareno were both 3-for-4 with a home run and a combined seven RBI in game one. Braxton and Escareno hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the first with two outs to give Marshall a 3-0 lead it would not relinquish. Braxton and Escareno would push the Marshall lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning with a lead-off single by Braxton followed by an RBI single from Escareno.
In the circle, Jordan Dixon combined to scatter seven hits and allowed just the one run in the third inning.
In game two, Marshall led 2-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning then it exploded for five runs to secure the win. The Herd loaded the bases on a single and two walks. Savannah Webster singled in a run and Marshall scored again on a wild pitch. Shaelynn Braxton salted the game away with her ninth homer of the year.
