FIU out-duels Marshall 3-1

MIAMI, Fla. — Florida International out-dueled Marshall 3-1 in the series opener Friday night.

FIU’s Mike Franco allowed one run on six hits and struck out ten batters as he improved to 4-0 on the season. Herd starter Josh King turned in a solid performance on the hill scattering seven his over 5.1 innings of work and allowing just one earned run.

In a game in which offense was at a premium, FIU struck first in the second inning on a pair of singles and Marshall throwing error. FIU took advantage of Marshall miscues again in the third inning. FIU’s Aramis Garcia earned a walk and came around to score as a result of two passed balls.

The Herd cut the deficit to one in the sixth on an RBI single by Chase Vogelbach. But The Herd could not close the gap.

FIU added and insurance run in the eighth inning on a solo homer by Roche Woodard.

Andrew Dundon and Chase Vogelbach combined for five of The Herd’s nine hits on the night.
