Huntington Area Food Bank gets new name

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Huntington Area Food Bank has been around for 30-years but Monday it got a new name. It’s now known as the Facing.Hunger. Food Bank.

Food bank Tiffany Tatum said the new name better reflects their mission.

“Even when we’re trying to let people know we have services to provide to them the name kind of tripped them up. By becoming, ‘Facing. Hunger. Food Bank,’ we’re acknowledging everything we do. We’re taking the geography out of it,” Tatum said.

The food bank serves 17 counties in West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio.

Tatum said the food bank’s main mission is still the same.

“People will still be able to get the same type of services. We do traditional distribution to food pantries and soup kitchens and emergency shelters.”

Tatum said with the new name it’s also a good time to roll out some new programs this spring by teaming up with Goodwill for a life-skills class and broadening access to food sources.

“We want to provide people with the tools to help them. So we’re working with agencies and organizations so that we can support local food access and provide those to the clients we serve that don’t always have access to fresh, healthy produce,” explained Tatum.

The food bank will remain at its current location on 7th Ave. in Huntington.
