GREENVILLE, N.C.— The Herd could not lock down a series sweep on Sunday as East Carolina salvaged the final game of the series with a 9-1 win in six innings.
The game was just a one run game through the first 4 1/2 innings. ECU lated its first run in the second inning thanks to a pair of Marshall errors. The Pirates would distance themselves with a four-run fourth inning. ECU led off the inning with a solo homer followed by an RBI single and a two-out two-RBI single to stretch its lead to 5-0.
ECU tacked on two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to end the game.
Marshall committed four errors on the day.
The Herd returns home on Wednesday for a mid-week matchup with Miami (OH).
