Star City bank robbery took less than a minute

STAR CITY, W.Va. — It was carried out with efficiency and expertise. Star City Police Chief Vic Propst said Thursday the entire robbery at a United Bank branch in Star City in Monongalia County lasted just 47 seconds.

“This guy was very good at what he did, very good,” Propst told WAJR-AM. “When he entered the bank he knew exactly where to go and what to do.”

Police were dispatched to the bank at 9:40 Wednesday morning.

The suspect is only described as 6-foot-2, 220 pounds with a very athletic build. He was covered from head toe and wore a blue metallic Halloween mask that looked like a skull. He jumped on the counter and threatened the teller with a large hunting knife and as quickly as he arrived, he ran out the back entrance of the bank.

“When he left the bank he crossed University Ave. and we believe he got into a vehicle when he crossed University Ave.,” said Propst.

Propst is optimistic an arrest will be made.

“He left some evidence behind,” stated Propst. However, he would not divulge what officers had collected at the scene.

The robbery Monongalia County was the second in less than 24 hours. A day earlier, the Wesbanco in Bruceton Mills was robbed. Propst said it does not appear the two are connected.

“He does not match the Bruceton Mills description but both were very well carried out, so we will be comparing notes.”
