Escobedo’s walk-off hit lifts Herd over Tulane 3-2

CHARLESTON, W.Va.— Trailing by a run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Eric Escobedo came to the plate with the bases loaded and ended the game on the first pitch he saw. Escobedo singled up the middle driving in two runs and giving Marshall the 3-2 walk off win over Tulane at Appalachian Power Park.

The win snaps a four-game skid for The Herd.

Andrew Dundon started the ninth inning rally with a single then Chase Vogelbach drew a walk. Aaron Bossi loaded the bases with a single, putting the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position. Escobedo stepped in the box with Marshall down to its final out and ripped the first pitch back up the middle.

The Herd manufactured its other run in the fourth inning. Serio Leon led off with a single then moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Dundon. Vogelbach drove Leon home with a double down the left field line.

Dundon finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate.

Starter Michael Taylor did not factor into the decision. The St. Albans native went 5.2 innings having to work out of trouble. He walked six batters and allowed a pair of runs on five hits.
