Arrest made in Fairmont deadly hit and run

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A man has been arrested in connection with a deadly hit-and-run accident.

Fairmont police charged Cole Valentine, 19, with leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

Raymond Michael, 37, of Fairmont, was killed early Sunday morning when he was hit by a car along U.S. Route 250 near Muriale’s Restaurant. Police think Michael had fallen or was lying on the highway when he was struck by a car being driven Valentine.

Police said Valentine fled the scene, then gave a statement about the accident after learning Michael had died. Police believe there may have been four witnesses, all who know Valentine, but did not come forward.

Investigators said Valentine and friends had been at a bar near Worthington and were headed to Kingmont when the accident occurred.
