DEP investigating gas well odor

The state DEP is investigating reports of emissions from a gas well drilling site in Tyler County. DEP spokesperson Kelley Gillenwater says the DEP has been at the Jay-Bee Oil and Gas drill site near Big Run since Friday afternoon following citizen complaints about an odor.

Gillenwater says emissions may have built up due to a low pressure weather system since so far inspectors have not detected any leaks or spills.   DEP inspectors remained on the scene through the weekend and have brought in air monitoring equipment “to find out what went wrong and to prevent it from happening again,” Gillenwater said.

The DEP had no reports of any injuries.
