Project Launchpad grounded by Tomblin

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Earl Tomblin vetoed a bill Tuesday that would have given tax credits to high tech companies looking to set up shop in the Mountain State.

Project Launchpad, also known as HB 4343, received some high marks from the governor, who favors encouraging new high-tech businesses. But he claimed there are already many tax credits on the state’s books.

“You can only have so many incentive programs out there,” Tomblin said.

The bill gained overwhelming approval in both the House and Senate. It was sponsored by Kanawha County Del. Doug Skaff and had the support of several economic development groups, including the Charleston Area Alliance.
