Herd zips by Akron 5-2

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.– On a picture perfect afternoon, Marshall plated five runs in the first three innings and got a solid outing from its bullpen and toped Akron 5-2 in a non-conference match up at the Kennedy Center.

The Herd took a 3-1 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from freshman Corey Bird and Chase Vogelbach RBI single.

Junior Sergio Leon went 3-4 with a run and RBI in the contest, and redshirt sophomore Robert Fajardo was 2-3 with a run driven in.

Redshirt sophomore Lance Elder (Miami) earned his first save of the year, after tossing two innings and grabbing three strikeouts out of six batters.

Marshall is back in action Wednesday. The Herd travels to Richmond, Ky to face Eastern Kentucky.
