Members of the Communication Workers of America have rallied several times to bring attention to contract negotiations.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Members of the Communication Workers of America have announced informational pickets will be held across West Virginia Friday. The union is in contract negotiations with Frontier Communications.

A third contract extension is scheduled to end at midnight Saturday. The contract expired Aug. 2, 2013 but the CWA and Frontier negotiated the extensions.

In announcing the informational pickets, the union said it would turn car windshields red in the Frontier parking lot in Charleston. CWA members will also wear camouflage clothing in a show of solidarity.

The contract covers about 1,600 Frontier employees in West Virginia.

The CWA previously said the water crisis cancelled some contract talks earlier in the year.

CWA union members might want to consider a wage cut, because FRONTIER's employees are killing it. They are the rudest customer service people I have ever encountered and the absolute worst service that exists. What's worse - they know it and could care less. I'm filing complaints with the FCC concerning the overcharging / under speed DSL service. The UNION needs canned! Make them work for a living where the quality counts, not their lazy attitudes.

  • Hoffa

Just curious, Charles. How many jobs do unions create? About the same amount that poor people create.....zero. Unions do nothing but inflate the cost of goods and services. Remember, if it weren't for those evil, greedy companies, there would be NO union or non-union jobs.

  • For The People

New sources tell me that this is all about the fact that most of the fine union folk are from the old verizon and didn't have to work or worry about providing good service and now Frontier actually expects both so they think they need more money to do what they are expected to do. The best part to me though is how they try to convince everyone how hard they work and no one else in the world can do what they do. Must be nice to be so "special". Wonder if I have what it takes to hang out in groups on the side of the road or at coffee shops?

    • CWA Local Member

I would get better news sources. No one is asking for more of anything. We just do not want what we have taken away as we were promised. We work hard and have produced results all across WV. It is us - your neighbors out there fixing networks and talking to you when you have concerns. We do work hard and WV jobs need to stay in WV for us and for all future employees.

      • DWL

Every one of the CWA employees of Frontier should be fired. Would you prefer a job or the union? I can tell you right now, the union could care less about you!

  • MVIGUY

I don't begrudge anyone trying to get a decent wage in our current economy. However, the end product this company puts out for most rural residents in this state is absolutely worthless. I pay 39.95 a month for DSL that doesn't even reach 500kbps most days. If this company won't give you a raise it's not because they're spending it on upgrades for the customers...........and we all would go somewhere else for our service if there was more than Frontier in the rural areas.........Unfortunately, where I live Frontier is all there is...............WORTHLESS!

    • DWL

File a complainant with the FCC for under speed and over charging. It will improve quickly.

Unions are the only thing standing in the way of TOTAL Corporate takeover. Sadly, corporate marketing and propaganda have weakened the minds of many. They have led them to believe corporations are good, regular workers (if they stand up for themselves) are just trouble makers and lazy.

Good luck CWA! I'm rooting for you!

  • GobblyGook

RIGHT-TO-WORK law is way overdue in WV.
Union thuggery at its best on display today. I would bet a paycheck we'll find Kan. Co. Commissioner Kent Carper out at the thug rally today.

  • Ronin

Based on our service here and stories I've heard from hundreds of Frontier customers across WV, I wouldn't be too proud, union man.

    • Charles K

I've never had problems with the workers that come to my office. The problems I've had are when I have to call the 1-800 line for help and they aren't WV workers. I'm not sure where I'm calling but there is no help on the other end of those lines.

The workers that have come to my office and house are really helpful and know what they are doing. I wish those people are the only ones I had to deal with when dealing with Frontier.

  • Jeff

Proud Union Man, I am a CWA member and was being fecetious. Those are true statements, without CWA workers, it would very hard for any calls to be made anywhere in the Mountain State, regardless of who you pay your bill to.

  • For The People

What's sad is that already overpaid people will fight to become more overpaid with a company losing business and customers everyday in this down trodden economy. Pure greed. Would they be willing to accept pay based on the lousy service they provide? I for one say give them what they want, the company can't continue losing business the way they do and keep overpaying employees so by giving them more it will take less time for Frontier to fold and then the company and these greedy overpaid union thugs will go away.

    • PROUD UNION MAN

      Jeff
sounds like you are just a HATER, Sorry you don't have what it takes to be a union employee. We are union because we do the jobs others can't. And get proper pay for that service.

    • Kevin F.

Overpaid? Really? Give us some numbers please that support that theory!! Or maybe you could go out at 2am on a callout to splice a section of cable that some meth filled idiot cut down, all the while it's pouring snow and 15 degrees. Try walking in their shoes, or mine, and your tune may change. Trust me.......

      • For The People

So I guess us customers are paying you now to monitor this forum during work time? I would respond quicker but this DSL (actually more like dial-up) won't let me, hey here's an idea, instead of parading around and browsing the interweb maybe you could actually do some work and try to provide reasonable and reliable service.

        • Pro-Common Sense

Common sense should tell you that greed comes from the top-down not bottom-up.

It should also tell you that the people working can only provide for what is given to them from the top.

Common sense verdict: "For the People" has no common sense.

          • Pro-Common Sense

"Maybe if the top didn't have to pay so much for the inflated money hungry bottom then the top could afford to provide better."

            What?

            Status Confirmed:
Common sense verdict: "For the People" has no common sense.

          • For The People

Maybe if the top didn't have to pay so much for the inflated money hungry bottom then the top could afford to provide better.

        • Kevin F.

And i'm still waiting for proof/figures to support the your "overpaid" theory....

          • For The People

Guessing you make $25 to $35 an hour, $52,000 to $72,000 a year and the WV avg being generous $38,000. So I don't know you tell me, I sure don't feel for you and with unemployment and the job market the way it is I really doubt the general public feels for you either.

        • Kevin F.

It's called a VACATION DAY loser. IF you had a job, you'd understand what those are. If you don't like your DSL service, go somewhere else. No one is twisting your arm to make you stay.

          • Kevin F.

There you go jumping to conclusions. I don't work for Frontier, i work for AT&T. I NEVER said i was underpaid, you said we are "overpaid" so prove it. How much would you want/need to work 12 hr shifts, get home at 8pm, then get called out at 1am to work a cut cable until the next evening. How much per hour is that worth to you? How much should we have to pay for benefits? $200/month, 300/month? I appreciate my job, you idiots just like to put words in people's mouths.

And Ronin, you lost that bet, I make $36.50 per hour. With all the overtime i work replacing cable that meth-heads cut down, i clear over $100,000 some years.....just so you guys can complain about your service. See who cries when they cut the copper feeding your cell tower and you lose that precious phone of yours for about a week when there are none of us "overpaid" chumps to fix your sh!t at 1am.........

          • Ronin

Ditto- no one is twisting your arm to keep your "horrible" job... move over and let someone who would appreciate the income have it.

And perhaps, since you're spending your vacation day online, maybe you can tell us just how "little" you make in an hour, day, or year... but I bet you won't.

          • For The People

You're right no one is twisting my arm just like no one is twisting your arm to work at Frontier, so why don't you just quit and get another job since your "underpaid". With that being so then getting a better paying job should be easy, bet you could get one in 5 minutes.

  • Jeff

Oh Bob, the uninformed have come out to play. How exactly do you believe cell towers work? Could it be that they have hard lines worked on by these same people, or possibly all secure government lines come into play. There is so much more than what you think you know Ma Bell did. Now, back to your regularly scheduled hate mongering.

  • Baghdad Bob

    A phone with a wire? What's that?
DSL? Ol you mean that substandard slow Internet service?

Another dying business model that a Union will help push out of business due their out of touch with reality demands.

    • Kevin F.

how do you think your precious cell phone operates douche bag? It's not "wireless" like you think. Most cell towers are either fed by copper T-1 circuits or by fiber cable. Regardless, someone has to maintain that cable. In all hours of the night, 365 days a year.

  • zero tolerance

If only they worked that hard for the state employees that they supposedly represent instead of just showing up and PR opportunities.

  • Sean

    employers**

  • Sean

I think it is sad that employees have to have a union to make sure employe pay them a living wage in the 21st century. Republicans are stuck on stupid!

    • Nicholas

      Amen, Sean, Amen.

    • Abbagoochie

Republicans my ass. That makes no sense. If you think democrats are for the working man as they always claim then you are in the land of oz. democrats have always been for the non-working man by taking from those that work and give to the deadbeats on any kind of welfare that dont. Democrats are a threat to my wallet by taking $$ and raising my taxes. How the hell are they for the working man? Cant wait for another stupid remark sean.

      • Ronin

Anyone who thinks there is a real difference between political parties probably also believes that Achmed the Dead Terrorist is a completely different entity from Jeff Dunham, and that Larry the Cable Guy is an actual person, not just an act. Two hands, two puppets; an ass, and a creature who never really lived in North America, like most of their supporters.
