Fire marshal: Elkins fire intentionally set

ELKINS, W.Va. — Investigators with the state Fire Marshal’s Office have determined a fire that injured a man and a woman Friday in Elkins was an intentionally set fire.

Firefighters responded to a third floor apartment on Second Street at shortly after 5:00 p.m. and they found the victims. They were both initially taken to Davis Medical Center before the man was transported to West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh where he remained in critical condition Tuesday.

The woman has been released from the hospital.

Initial reports said the man set himself or fire but the Fire Marshal’s Office couldn’t confirm anything beyond the fire being intentionally set.

The names of those involved have not been released.

The West Virginia State Police is assisting with the investigation.
