Former police officer indicted on sexting charge

NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. — A former northern panhandle police officer was indicted this week by the Hancock County grand jury.

Former New Cumberland and Chester police officer Eric Maruca, 27, of New Cumberland, was indicted on one count of displaying obscene matter to a minor, a felony.

Maruca allegedly took a nude picture of himself to a 16-year-old girl. Her mother filed the original complaint last fall.

The grand jury also indicted a mutual friend of the Maruca and the girl. Amanda Myers, 30, of New Cumberland, faces charges of use of a minor to produce obscene matter and use of a minor in filming sexually explicit conduct. She allegedly took the pictures of the teenage girl and sent them to Maruca.

Maruca worked eight years with the New Cumberland Police Department before joining the Chester PD last summer.
