HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Sophomore Chase Vogelbach drove home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give Marshall a 2-1 walk-off win over Ohio.
Marshall won its seven of its last nine games, including four leagues games.
It appeared Marshall was headed to extra innings before Andrew Dundon poked a two-out single through the right side of the infield. Vogelbach followed with the game-ending double down the right-field line.
Runs were hard to come by for both teams. The game remained scoreless until Herd freshman Brenden Wells led off the bottom of the sixth with a stand-up triple. Wells scored two batters later on wild pitch.
Redshirt sophomore Lance Elder made his first start on the mound since 2012. He sat out last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Elder tossed four shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out two.
Marshall heads to San Antonio to face off against new Conference USA rival UTSA in a three game series beginning Friday.
