UTSA stops Herd 6-2

SAN ANTONIO, TX– Marshall got them on base but couldn’t get them in Friday night in San Antonio. The Herd outhit UTSA 13-12 but the Roadrunners downed The Herd 6-2 in the opener of the three game series.  Marshall left ten runners on base in the game.

Junior Sergio Leon (Miami) turned in a 2-3 performance, freshman Corey Bird (Elkview, W.Va.) went 3-5 with a run and RBI, and sophomore Matt Reed (Purcellville, Va.) turned in a 2-4 day with a run scored.

UTSA took an early lead, plating a run in the bottom of the first after right fielder, on base after a leadoff double, scored to get the Roadrunners on the board.

The Roadrunners added to its lead in the fourth after a homerun, and proceeded to increase its lead scoring two more runs in the fifth off a double from catcher John Bormann.

Starter Michael Taylor (St. Albans, W.Va.) took the loss, tossing 5.2 innings, allowing nine hits and four walks.
