Several cited for Mercer County cock fight

PRINCETON, W.Va. — Five people have been cited for roles in a cock fighting event in Mercer County.

Tips lead State Police and deputies with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department to a site near Oakvale on Saturday where, investigators said, they found evidence of a recent cock fighting event, including two severely injured roosters.

Citations for hosting an illegal venture were issued to the property’s owner, Stacey Brown, 43, of Mercer County and his brother, Gilbert Brown, 45, of Princeton.

Three others were cited for being in attendance at an illegal venture.

In all, six fighting roosters were also seized along with game fighting spurs.
