Rockefeller to look back at Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) will return to the Upshur County school he once lead on Tuesday to reflect on his 50 years in public service in Washington, D.C. and in West Virginia.

Rockefeller will be part of a forum at West Virginia Wesleyan in Upshur County where he served as president from 1973-1976.

Ted Koppel will be the moderator for the event that begins at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wesleyan’s Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts.

For the first time since 1984, Rockefeller, 76, is not seeking reelection to the U.S. Senate.  He has said his current term, his fifth, will be his last.

Rockefeller first came to West Virginia as a VISTA volunteer assigned to Emmons in southern West Virginia in 1964.

His political career began in 1966 when he ran for the state House of Delegates.  Before being elected to the U.S. Senate, he served as secretary of state and governor.
