Rockefeller reflects

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) says a lot has changed since he first ran for public office in 1966 and won a seat in the West Virginia House of Delegates.

Rockefeller, 76, reflected on those many changes during a Tuesday forum at West Virginia Wesleyan in Buckhannon where he served as president from 1973-1976.

During the forum, he talked about his path to public service and his connection to the people of the Mountain State.

Ted Koppel moderated the forum at Wesleyan’s Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts that included students and community members from Upshur County and surrounding areas.

In all, Rockefeller has put 50 years into public service.  He first arrived in West Virginia as a VISTA volunteer assigned to Emmons in 1964.

Rockefeller has served in the U.S. Senate since 1984.  His current term, his fifth, will be his last.
