Man sentenced for setting fire to steps leading to girlfriend’s apartment

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Beckley man is going to federal prison for five years after setting fire to the steps of his girlfriend’s apartment.

Antonio Wade, 30, was sentenced in federal court in Charleston Friday. He earlier admitted he set fire to a Charleston residence following an argument because he knew that was the only way out of the apartment. U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said Wade’s girlfriend at the time and her young son were in the apartment.

Wade pleaded guilty in January to malicious destruction by fire.
