Storms lining up, moving across Mountain State

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Most of West Virginia can expect shows and heavy thunderstorms through Thursday.

Several communities received a taste of the unsettled weather system Tuesday morning. Heavy downpours put down a quick half-inch of rain in Huntington, flooding several streets. That system moved east into Putnam and Kanawha counties. Heavy rain also occurred in central counties.

The National Weather Service placed several counties under a flash flood watch beginning Tuesday morning through Wednesday. Those counties include Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe and Summers. Sections of Mineral and Pendleton counties are under a flash flood watch beginning Tuesday evening.

The state is expected to be on the back edge of the storm system by Thursday with cooler temperatures in the forecast with the chance for showers.
