ARH nurses reach deal with hospital company

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Registered nurses at two Appalachian Regional Healthcare hospitals, including one in Raleigh County, will vote next week on a proposed three-year labor agreement.

That agreement was reached Wednesday, the day before registered nurses at both Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard, Ky. along with those at Beckley ARH were scheduled to go on strike for one day — from 7 a.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday.

Those nurses, represented by Southern United Nurses and National Nurses United, had originally planned to hit the picket line to protest unsafe work loads, cuts in health coverage and other reductions in RN standards.

The details of the tentative contract were not immediately made public.  Voting will begin next Wednesday.
