Father ordered to stand trial in daughter’s death

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County man accused of killing his adopted daughter is scheduled to stand trial in August after being ruled competent to stand trial in a Monday morning hearing.

Roy Pittman was arrested last May after the shooting death of his 15-year-old daughter Brittany. It’s also alleged Pittman shot his son Matthew in the leg and then turned the gun on himself.

A Kanawha County circuit judge set Pittman’s trial for Aug. 18 Monday but did order another mental evaluation.
