Herd sweeps La Tech, qualifies for C-USA tourney

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.– Marshall’s softball qualified for the Conference USA Tournament with a weekend sweep Louisiana Tech.

“What a way to finish the regular season,” coach Shonda Stanton said. “I’m so proud of our group.”

Marshall downed LA Tech 8-4 Sunday afternoon to complete the sweep. The Herd scored five times in the sixth inning to secure the win on Senior Day.

Senior Savanah Webster launched her seventh homer of the season, a two-run blast over the center field wall. Webster finished the day 2-for-3 with a two runs and a pair of RBI.

Freshman Lindsey Fadnek (Coalfield, Tenn.) earned her eighth victory of the season after allowing just two hits in 6.0 innings pitched.

Marshall heads to Boca Raton, Fla. this week to defend is C-USA Tournament Title. Marshall is the 7th seed heading into the tournament that starts Thursday.
