Arrests made after sexual assault of Nicholas County teen

RICHWOOD, W. Va. — Two women have been arrested in Nicholas County for crimes related to the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year old girl.

Alexandria Schmidt, 19, of Richwood is charged with sexual assault in the 3rd degree for allegedly assaulting the victim on at least eight separate occasions between October 2013 and May 2014.

Deputies with the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department claimed Julie Ann Smith, 36, of Richwood — the parent of the victim — knew about the assaults.  She’s charged with authorizing sexual contact with a minor.

The two are being held in the Central Regional Jail.  Schmidt’s bond is set at $40,000, while Smith’s is set at $20,000.
