Live on the Levee ready to launch

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — It’s time to go Live on the Levee.

The Memorial Day Weekend will kick off the 11th season of the popular concert series in downtown Charleston. Friday, the folks behind LOTL announced who would be entertaining the crowd this summer.

Andy Harris, who helped book this years acts, promised no one would be disappointed.

“We try to look at it from 10-thousand feet above. We try and get something that’s going to appeal to everybody, whether you like Blues or Soul music. We’ve got a great Bluegrass night planned. We’re going to have a lot of great rock-n-roll music throughout the summer,” according to Harris. “So no matter what you like, there’s something for you!”

There are some familiar names on the line-up including the Black Diamond, former X-Factor finalist and West Virginia native Colton Pack, West Virginia Music Hall of Fame member Billy Cox and the Bob Thompson Unit.

Then there are some groups you might not recognize like Donna the Buffalo and Yarn. Harris said folks need to come out on Friday nights to expand their musical horizons.

“I hope people will come down and be surprised. Whether you’ve heard the groups or not I hope you’ll come down and support the bands.”

Live on the Levee began back in 2004 and Harris said it’s grown leaps and bounds.

“When I first started coming down here there’d be a few dozen people, maybe 100 or 200. Now even on our slowest evening we have over 1,000 people down here.”

The concert series runs 15 straight weekends starting Friday, May 23. To see the entire line-up for this summer log on to www.liveontheleveecharleston.com.
