Tulsa trounces Herd in C-USA Title Game

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Top seeded Tulsa was too much for the Thundering Herd blowing open 1-0 game with a five-run fourth inning and going on to win the Conference USA Tournament Championship Game 8-0.

“Well, when you look at today, it does not change anything that this group has accomplished,” coach Shonda Stanton said. “What an incredible team.”

Tulsa put the game out of reach in the fifth inning when Jill Barrett delivered a two-run single, followed by a three-run double from Erica Sampson. Tulsa wrapped up its scoring when Barrett and Blanton both crossed the plate on wild pitches in the bottom of the sixth.

Meanwhile, Marshall’s offense was confounded all day by Tulsa pitcher Amiee Creger. She allowed only two hits while striking out 12.

Marshall has earned the Conference USA Tournament Runner Up three times, facing Tulsa each time (2006, 2012, 2014).

Marshall had four players recognized as part of the C-USA All-Tournament Team.

Shaelynn Braxton (Woodbridge, Va.) was one of four infielders recognized. Kaelynn Greene (Eastvale, Calif.) was one of three outfielders acknowledged. Morgan Zerkle (Milton, W.Va.) earned the sole honor of utility player, and Jordan Dixon (Edmond, Okla.) was one of two pitchers awarded a trophy.
