U.S. Senator Manchin releases statement on mother’s passing

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Joe Manchin’s mother, Mary Manchin, died Monday. She was 91.

The senator released the following statement:

“Today, the good Lord brought my dear mother home to rest in eternal peace next to my father. Gayle and I, and our entire family, are saddened by the loss of my beloved mother who touched so many in her life, but we know that she is now in a better place. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.”

Manchin said last week during an appearance on MetroNews Talkline that his mother wasn’t feeling well.

“Mom’s 91 God bless her,” Manchin said on Talkline. “She’s always been at my side and my best cheerleader, but you know, time is catching up with us.”

Manchin said his mother had been on oxygen but was able to stay at home under the watchful eye of his sisters Paula and Janet. The interview ended with the senator thinking about Mother’s Day.

“If you have your mother, God bless ya, and if you thought you were too busy to visit her take a little extra time and go,” Manchin said.
