TWILIGHT, W.Va. — Those who knew coal miner Eric Legg spoke highly of him. A Facebook page serving as a memorial for Legg and fellow miner Gary Hensley are covered with messages of comfort and sympathy.
Those posting to the page described Legg as “a great father” and “a sweet man.” The page called for continual prayer and comfort for the families of the two men who died in Monday night’s mining accident at Patriot Coal’s Brody No. 1 Mine in Boone County.
Legg, 48, of Twilight, was reportedly working his last shift at the Brody Mine and was planning to start a new job. He was engaged and due to get married this weekend. He leaves behind three children and two stepchildren ranging in age from 18 to 25 and a six-year-old grandson.
The family had apparently known tragedy before. Two of those children lost their mother in a car wreck a few years ago and now are having to endure the tragic loss of their father.
Hensley, 46, lived in Chapmanville.
