Only 1 of 17 state Senate races will be uncontested this fall

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — All but one of the 17 state Senate races in November will be challenged races. Only Senate Minority Leader Mike Hall (R-Putnam) is currently scheduled to face no opposition.

STATE SENATE: Voting results forĀ all 17 districts across West Virginia

Among the tight races in Tuesday’s state Senate primaries, Sam Cann became the lone incumbent to lose, beaten by Harrison County Commissioner Mike Romano for the Democratic nomination in the 12th District.

Huntington attorney Mike Woefel made a strong showing by garnering an estimated 74 percent of the votes in the 5th District Democratic race. He will face Republican Vicki Dunn-Marshall in the fall.

An open Senate seat in Kanawha County will be filled by either state Del. Doug Skaff (D-Kanawha) or South Charleston’s Dr. Tom Takubo, both of whom won Tuesday.
