One teen arrested in mailbox explosion

CHARLESTON, W.Va. —  Charleston Police have arrested and charged one of two teenage boys suspected in the bombing of a mailbox in the city’s South Hills neighborhood.

The teen was located about 9:00 Monday night and charged with criminal use of an explosive device.  They haven’t released his name due to his age.   The search for a second teenager believed to have been involved continues.

The boys were caught on a home video surveillance camera early Saturday setting the explosive in a mailbox through the window of their vehicle at a home on Loudon Heights Road.

Detectives said the driver placed something in the mailbox and then got a lighter from the passenger and set the device on fire.

The video shows a primary explosion followed by a secondary explosion that was more significant.

Police said the pair were in a four-door Jeep Wrangler.

The homeowner put the video on YouTube, which officers credit with helping to identify the suspects.
