Sex-related charges against teacher headed to grand jury

MARLINTON, W.Va. — A Pocahontas County magistrate found enough evidence Tuesday to forward sex-related charges against a Pocahontas County teacher to a grand jury for consideration.

Samantha Bartley, 25, of Marlinton, appeared for a preliminary hearing.

State Police charged the vocational agriculture teacher at Pocahontas County High School with three counts of sexual assault by a person in a position of trust. She allegedly had relations last year with a student.

The alleged victim talked with troopers after Bartley had inquired about filing destruction of property charges against him.

The magistrate heard testimony Tuesday and found probable cause to forward the charges. The next grand jury in Pocahontas County is scheduled for August.

Bartley remains free on $15,000 bond. She was suspended from her job pending the outcome of the case.
