Strong storms could rough up Mountain State

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Forecasters at the National Weather Service Bureau in Charleston said Wednesday West Virginia is in line for significant storm activity much of the day.

A frontal system could bring the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by large hail and strong winds from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. moving north to south in the state.

“Our greatest threat is strong, possibly damaging winds,” said Meteorologist Liz Sommerville. “We could see some large hail with it.”

The forecast mentions the remote possibility of a tornado, but Sommerville stresses the term “remote.”

“It’s such a small chance,” she said. “The majority of this is going to be straight line winds. We’re not looking too much at tornadoes in the state of West Virginia.”
