QB Anderson to transfer to Fordham

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.– Marshall reserve quarterback Kevin Anderson has opted to transfer to Fordham University.

The move is not surprising given the limited amount of snaps available for quarterbacks and the depth Doc Holliday has built at the position over the last couple of years. Anderson started the the 2014 spring practices hoping to compete for the backup position behind entrenched starter Rakeem Cato. However, by the Green/White Game, Anderson had slipped to fourth on the depth chart behind sophomore Gunnar Holcombe and freshman Cole Garvin.

Anderson’s playing time was likely to be even more limited moving into the fall and next season. Former James Madison quarterback Michael Birdsong will transfer this fall and have two years of eligibility left. Birdsong is expected to compete for the starting job in 2015 along with Holcombe and Garvin. The Herd has also received a verbal commitment from Tampa, Fla. quarterback Chase Litton for 2015.

Anderson came to Marshall as a two-star recruit out of Boca Raton High School but never took a live snap for The Herd.

He’s the second quarterback to transfer this offseason. Blake Frohnapfel, who earned his degree from Marshall, chose to transfer to UMass for the 2014 season as a graduate transfer.
