Class A softball: Can Magnolia block Buffalo’s 4-peat?

VIENNA, W.Va. — Buffalo’s amazing three-year run in Class A softball seems on the verge of extending to a fourth straight title.

But Magnolia wants its shot.

The Blue Eagles (18-14) don’t sport a gaudy record or a championship pedigree, but as of late Wednesday night they were tangling with Buffalo (27-7) in a winners-bracket tilt. The Bison led 1-0 in the fourth inning when rain suspended play until Thursday morning.

Beth Cook homered and doubled in another run as Moorefield (24-7) survived.
Jordan Lewis collected two hits and scored two runs for Sherman, which ended its season at 20-15.
The Tide didn’t go quietly, loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh, before Moorefield’s Danica Rogers induced an infield popup to close the game.

Katie Higginbotham went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and Noell Gingess drove in two runs on two hits to lead the Bison’s romp.

Magnolia 4, Sherman 2
Sophomore Davianne Croasmun hit a two-run first-inning single before leading off the fourth with a homer that broke a 2-2 tie.

The Tide used an error and Baylee Harless’ RBI single for its first run, before Jordan Lewis singled in the third inning and scored on a wild pitch.
