Senator recognized in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va, – Outgoing U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller continues to be recognized for his decades of public service.

On Thursday, he attended the West Virginia Alzheimer’s Association’s Annual “Thanks for the Memories” Luncheon where he was honored for his contributions, over the years, to Alzheimer’s research.

The event brought together and celebrated the efforts of outstanding West Virginians who are fighting to end the disease.  Those attending included members of the Association, Alzheimer’s care-giving groups and representatives with the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute.

Rockefeller co-founded the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute (BRNI) in Morgantown.  BRNI was established in 1999, in honor of Rockefeller’s late mother, who passed away after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Rockefeller was awarded at the first “Thanks for the Memories” Luncheon in 2001 for his commitment to advancing research into Alzheimer’s and other diseases of the brain.  This year, as he prepares to leave office, he was honored for his ongoing efforts to understand and find a cure for Alzheimer’s and other forms of memory loss.
