FAIRMONT, W. Va. — A Marion County man convicted of the first degree murder of his father-in-law has been denied a new trial.
Michael Palmer’s attorney requested a new trial citing the prosecution failed to prove Palmer didn’t act in self-defense.
While addressing the court on Friday, Palmer accused the witnesses in his trial of lying, accused Marion County Prosecuting Attorney Patrick Wilson of abusing his power and claimed justice had not been served in his case.
Marion County Judge Michael Aloi denied Palmer’s request for a new trial and sentenced him to life in prison with mercy. He will be eligible for parole in 15 years and will receive credit for time served.
Palmer was convicted of the 2011 murder of his father-in-law Everett “Ed” Wilson.
His wife, Kristin Palmer, was scheduled to enter into a plea deal for her alleged involvement in the killing of her fatther last month but backed out of the deal. She is also charged with 20 felony counts of forgery and uttering after writing and cashing checks from her deceased father’s bank account totaling $4,650.
She is scheduled to appear in court next week.
