Towson, the national runner-up in the FCS last season, will visit West Virginia on Sept. 6 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Root Sports.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia’s Sept. 6 football game against FCS member Towson will be a prime-time event even though it’s not necessarily featuring a prime-time opponent.

Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. Eastern on Root Sports television.

That makes three verified start times for the Mountaineers in 2014. They open the season by facing Alabama at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 30 in the Georgia Dome (ABC or ESPN2) and are slated to meet Kansas State on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. (FoxSports1).

Why are comments disabled on the "story" about JR's open letter to Gee?

Will people really want to attend this game after WVU gets blasted by Alabama on August 30?

    • FNP

      Yea real fans will.

  • Imgrill

Do we have a way to block poster boy for " I hate my life and I want everyone to hate their life too" William ( and his other names) ? I'm all for people and the right to different opinions but everyday same post same sad william and friends. At some point the rest if us deserve a site free of the repeat post. Hate wvu if you want just go away.

  • william

Bill Stewart had to go because 34,500 season tickets sold was unexceptable!
Now under Dana "The Man in Black" Holgerson it at a low of 24,500
    This must be UNEXCEPTABLE>
    and yes, I'M LOVIN' IT

    • gus

Unacceptable, not unexceptable. Must have gone to Marsha...

    • Chris

got to love our fan base.. the ol what have you done for me lately BS.. And Stewart was not let go due to season ticket sales.. And if you would open your eyes, you would see that the reason we are in the situations we were the last 2 years was due to lack of scholarship numbers in the last 2 classes and overall team.. This is the first season they have been at 85 scholarships since early in Stewart's tenure. Also if you want to strain your brain some, you can look back at the best coach we had here in Don Nehlen and even he had some losing seasons and .500 years..

      • Rick S.

Actually, when Oliver Luck announced he was changing coaches, Luck said part of the reason was because of declining season ticket sales. That came straight from the athletic director.

A 2011 ESPN story on the coaching change specifically cited the fact that there were almost 12,000 empty seats for the preceding season's finale against Rutgers.

learn how to spell william. makes you look dumber than you already are. (accept and except) 2 different words.

  • Dave

So fired up to see me some Mountaineer football. It's always a great day to be a Mountaineer fan wherever you may be.

    LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • william

So sad that WVU must schedule TOWSON just to get a win
But wait, WVU fans eat-it-up when they play cup-cake teams and win big then call themselves a great team>
Thats the way its been for the last 20 years in the BIG EASY CONF.

    • FNP

William i'm sorry that we dont play the cupcake schedule that Marshall plays.

    • Dave

Big 12 football: West Virginia's schedule ranks No. 1.

      William, read it and weap.

    • ViennaGuy

Then go root for P*TT. At least they'd have someone in the stands if you showed up.

  • Justin

First Bama then the runner up in the FCS then Maryland that beat us by 37 and has everyone back. Then the Big12 schedule? Is it bball season yet? Oh wait..... Arghhgggg!!!!

  • uncle phil

This makes sense. I've stunk it up so badly in recent years, this game could be a barn-burner!!!

  • CaptainQ

Afternoon or night, the Mountaineers better not take Towson lightly. WVU came very close to losing to William and Mary in the home opener last year.

  • mad hatter

please do not take towson , lightly,, as they played for the fcs championship last yr/
I can see us easily be 0-4 to start the season , definitely we lost to okla, and ala, and maryland ,at maryland , will be very difficult ,knowing we just don't have a div 1 qb. So Dana has his work cut out for him, i think maybe 2015 season might be out coming out yr, it all depends on the qb situation, and continued great recruiting.
We may be deeper this yr, but talent is thin. I think we all agree that anything more than a 6-6 season would need some huge miracles.

  • GoEers

Perfect start time. That gives me enough time to get in a round of golf in the morning before heading up for tailgating festivities!

    • An actual athlete

Absolutely I can't think of a better way to spend a day. Golf at Lakeview and the rest of the day at Mountianeer Field. Leeettttsss Gooooooo!!!!!!!!!

  • Ole Sasquatch

It's possible we could beat Alabama and then lose to Towson St.

    • Oh Did Ya?

      It absolutely is!

    • WVU1

      Yes, it is.

    • mad hatter

easily we lose to Ala. it's all up to saban how badly he wants to run the score up,,, we will find that we are light yrs. apart in talent between us and Alabama. I really think we should just mail this loss in, and save the travel dollars for another yr.

      • GoEers

yeah just like WVU was light years away in talent last year from Oklahoma St., or in years past like against Clemson, Oklahoma, and Georgia

      • FNP

        27-24....WVU wins

  • Ron - from Morgantown

I like the night games as well . Now is the time to conquer the night . I know its only Towson but I'm getting excited about football . I don't want to wish the Summer away , and I won't , especially after the Winter we had but its still a solid choice to play this game at 730 pm . Especially after that huge upset over Alabama the week before ! The stadium will be rockin !

    • Alex

      Right on Ron......I like it...

  • FNP

Keep the evening and night games coming. I love it.

    • Mtnman

You must live in Mo'town. Makin' night games from Princeton is tuff. I agree though, night games are great.

      • FNP

No i watch them from home so i dont have to deal with the traffic. I catch around 3 home games a year and the rest are from the comfort of my home. And when i do go i stay the night.

      • J the C

The atmosphere is great at night games, but afterwards, when it's 11:00, and you're sitting in a parking lot looking at tail lights, I wish I had a Star Trek Transporter. It's only an 1 and 1/2 hour trip, but it takes another hour to get out of town. Plus, I'm always the designated driver.

  • Jason R.

I bet Olli had to fight hard to get a primetime spot on Root Sports.

    • Rick S.

The Pirates have the 4:00 time slot on Root Sports for their game at Chicago that afternoon.
