Charleston’s Yeager Airport offers new flights to Philadelphia

New nonstop service to Philadelphia from Charleston’s Yeager Airport started on Thursday.

CHARLESTON, W.Va.- It’s now easier to get to the “City of Brotherly Love” to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

With Philly cheesesteaks served beside Gate C at Charleston’s Yeager Airport, officials and passengers celebrated the inaugural flight of the new Dash 8 service to Philadelphia, Pa. on Thursday.

Airport officials said they hope passengers will take advantage of the benefits the new flight offers.  They said, by flying from Charleston to Philadelphia International Airport, passengers will have better access to more than 100 destinations that U.S. Airways, through the new American Airlines, serves out of Philadelphia, including flights to 25 countries.

According to Brian Belcher, director of Yeager’s Marketing and Air Service, another advantage customers could see is lower ticket pricing because adding the direct flight creates another competitive price point.

“It’s a great business connection. Anytime we get a new hub, we see market stimulation. People who normally wouldn’t fly to do business there will fly either from Philadelphia to do business in West Virginia or from here to do business up there. It just opens up a whole new market for our companies,” said Belcher.

The flights are part of a new regional service through the new American Airlines from Philadelphia that also includes Lexington, Ky. and Memphis, Tenn.
