State Ethics Commission fires director

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Ethics Commission voted 5-4 Thursday afternoon to fire Commission Executive Director Joan Parker.

The decision came with no explanation from members of the panel.

Joan Parker

Parker was formerly the commission’s general counsel when she was promoted to executive director in Feb. 2013. Parker was first hired as the commission’s deputy counsel in 2006.

Some members of the state Senate were critical of Parker and the commission earlier this year when they said she lobbied on a bill lawmakers were considering. Jefferson County Sen. Herb Snyder criticized the move during a committee meeting.
