Guilty plea, sentencing in Marion County death-related case

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A Marion County woman accused in the murder of her father has been sentenced to 2 to 15 years in prison.

Kristyn Palmer, 32, entered an Alford plea Friday morning to charges of forgery, uttering and conspiracy. Palmer admitted to writing checks and drawing cash from her father’s account after he was murdered in Dec. 2011. According to the police report, checks totaling $4,650 were drawn upon Ed Wilson’s account and cashed at Fairmont Federal Credit Union.

Wilson, 62, was shot outside of of the door of Palmer’s home by her husband Michael Palmer. He was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison but will be eligible for parole in 15 years. Prosecutors argued Palmer hated Wilson and planned the murder. Palmer maintained it the shooting was in self-defense.

Kristyn Palmer was also indicted for first-degree murder in her father’s death, but as part of the plea agreement those charges were dismissed.

She will receive credit for time already served. Kristyn Palmer has been behind bars since she was arrested in 2012.
