HUNTINGTON, W.Va.– Marshall’s season opener against Miami, OH will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 30.

ESPN made the announcement Friday morning. The game at Yager Stadium in Oxford, OH will be broadcast at ESPN3.com.

The matchup is a rematch of last year’s 52-14 season opening drubbing by the Thundering Herd. Marshall scored 38 unanswered points in the second half to blow open game against its former Mid-American Conference rivals.

Rakeem Cato tossed five touchdowns and had 253 yards passing while The Herd’s running backs recorded 304 yards on the ground.

With Friday’s announcement at least seven of Marshall’s 12 games will be televised.

So the WVwho stubborn rock heads continue to bash poor Marshall as being unworthy to play MIGHTY WEST VIRGINA UNIVERSITY, as if they're not good enough to be on the same field, or even in the same STATE. Well you can make excuses for not playing MU all you want, like there is no benefit to WVU, etc. etc. blah, blah, blah. Well if Oliver Luck wasn't such an ass and would put WVU's tremendous egos on the line to give "little brother" a chance, I'm sure MU would beat "big brother" eventually. But we'll never know, will we? Because they prefer to schedule cream puffs such as Towson this year, and Liberty in 2015, instead of giving MU a chance, and possible getting whupped. And we all know that if that EVER happened Oliver would be so humiliated, as would most of the MU bashers, while you're all eating a huge dinner of CROW! The moral of the story is you can brag all you want about being 12 - 0 against MU, but unless you give them a chance to improve on that record, you're just living in the past. So come on, let's play, or are you scared your Little Brother may beat you?

My favorite game was when Marshall had it won in 2010 and let it slip through their fingers. And that was at the Joan! And there's no way you can say that WVU would lose to Marshall last year. Would it have been close? Yea i think it would've been just like the 1997 game.

    • Jabo

Another moral victory for Marsha and at the Groan too.

  • Jason

That is correct, WVU has always beat MU when they played. However, if you are familiar with both MU and WVU, you would know that almost all of the games in the recent series between the two (with the exception of the first one in '97, which MU was winning until the 4th on a blocked punt), all of the games took place during what most would consider WVU's golden years with WVU's string of most successful seasons and most talented athletes and during MU's major rebuilding years with different head coaches and sanctions. Now, all of that being said, take it with a grain of salt, not saying MU would have won during some of MU's best years when Pennington and Leftwich were in their prime at MU, just saying the two teams didnt play much during MU's golden years. Nobody can know who would have won last year either, but one thing is evident, based on recent history, it appears we are seeing two programs heading in opposite directions, currently.

    • Jabo

A win is a win. Keep living in the past with those pee wee titles and us WVU fans will keep making fun of you. Yeah, we are. Your schedule is a freaking joke and ours is a tough one. Talk about opposite directions.

      • WVBoy

Since WVU refuses to play Marshall now I guess we'll never know, so I guess we'll leave it up to national rankings to see who has the better team.

        • Jabo

Refuses to play?? HaHa How many more butt kickings does Marsha want? Isn't 12 enough?? Rankings? With this schedule?? LOL

Phil Steele just ranked MU at #19. Another from SI.com had them at #25. Check any of the rankings from the end of last year.

    0 - 1

  • Jabo

Your game isn't even on tv. Fire up your MAC(LOL) and watch it on ESPN3. LOL

  • WV Proud

I'm happy that WVU has always beaten Marshall. I am an alum of WVU, however my daughter is a Cheerleader at Marshall. I will always put WVU ahead of Marshall when they are playing. When they are not playing I am a Herd fan. All that to say this. If WVU would have played Marshall last year, they would have been crushed. Everyone knows that!

    • Gomez

Here-here WV Proud! I am a Mountaineer too and agree with your rooting priorities. Our son goes to MU now too and I have a great time going over to about 2 of their games a year - I can sure afford that more than going to Morgantown! I agree with you that last season would have reversed the W/L trend for MU. Go Herd! Lets Go Mountaineers!

    • Jabo

No, everyone don't know that. We would've beaten them like always. Why don't you buy season tickets at the Groan.

      • notorius

Rakeem Cato is exponentially better than any QB on WVU's roster.

He would have shredded our "defense."

        • Jason

The two QB's that just transferred from MU is better than any QB on WVU's current roster.

          • Jabo

You say that now that Geno is gone and that's funny. Just stay tuned when William Crest gets going.

  • Jabo

One things for sure, we always beat Marsha.....that's a given.

  • WV Proud

Probably about as good as wvu's
    game with Maryland last year.

  • Jabo

Whewwww!! What a barn burner that will be!! That's the game of the year!! LOL

    • Roger

We are as happy to play Miami in the opener as Alabama is to play WVU. Only difference here is WVU comes home with a big check and Marshall brings home a win.

      • Aaron

"...and Marshall brings home a win."

        Hopefully

      • Jabo

I bet you are. Your whole schedule is the easiest in the country. Concord College has a tougher one. Look at this pee wee schedule:

You sure post alot about a team you dont follow? Not sure I follow that logic...

          • Jason

Thanks. I will root for MU to shoot for the 4 team playoff and you can root for WVU to win 4 games. Deal.

          • Jabo

Gotta see what lil brother is up to.

          • ron 51

What a tuff schedule what a joke good luck making the 4 team playoff
