Florida man on trial beginning Monday in WJU student’s death

WHEELING, W.Va. — Jury selection begins Monday morning in the trial of a Florida man charged in last year’s death of Wheeling Jesuit University student Kevin Figaniak. Craig Peacock is charged with murder.

Peacock, 22, of Clewiston, Fla., was with a group of men August 3, 2013 who got into a fight with Figaniak, who died from the injuries he suffered the next morning. The men had spent the night at a few bars in the Woodsdale area of Wheeling.

An original co-defendant in the case, Jarrett Chandler, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter back in January. Peacock and Chandler were living in the northern panhandle working in the oil and gas business.

A 12-member jury will be chosen Monday in Ohio County Circuit Court.

Figaniak, 21, of Perkasie, Pa., was a lacrosse player at WJU.
