One killed in Summit Point Raceway accident

JEFFERSON COUNTY, W.Va. — The investigation continues into the Saturday night crash at Summit Point Raceway that left a driving instructor dead.

The wreck happened during the HyperFest racing event.

Reports indicated the instructor was a passenger in a vehicle that made a sharp left turn before the driver lost control and crashed into a tree after 5 p.m. Saturday.

The driver was being treated at a hospital in Winchester, Va.

The driver nor the instructor were being publicly identified as of Sunday.

Deputies with the Jefferson County sheriff’s department were investigating.
